Doug Bielmeier (Boston) creates, engineers and produces commercial and experimental music tailored for boutique audiences and media.

 

His 2021 music release Ambient Works on Albany Records charted #1 on the North American College and Community Radio Chart (NACC) on the Chill Genre from 8/21-9/21[1]. His discography includes PLAGUE TAPE 2021 (Boston Hassle, 2021) Ambient Works (Albany Records, 2021), Monophonic (SEAMUS, 2020), Beast of Bodmin Moor (Self Released, 2019) featuring American composer and musician Michael Drews (aka Hauntron) and clarinetist and composer Eric Salazar, Mind & Machine: Organic & Electronic Works, Vol. 1 Ravello Records, 2018) and Betty and the Sensory World (Ravello Records, 2017), His music has been internationally performed and in New York City by the Unheardof Ensemble and the Hypercube Ensemble. His music has been broadcast on WMBR (MIT, Cambridge), KALX (Berkley, CA), WUTL (New Orleans, LA), WORT 89.9FM (Madison, Wisconsin) and heard by over 100K listeners on Drone Zone (Somafm).

Bielmeier's work as a Recording Engineer, Record Producer has included working with Indie and start- up artists for Centaur, New Amsterdam, and Iridian Arts record labels in Nashville, DC, Indianapolis, and Boston. Bielmeier designed/managed The C.L.E.A.R. Lab at Purdue School of Engineering: a state-of-the-art facility for creating, mixing, and mastering new electronic works featuring a Phantom Focus System by Carl Tatz Design. His live sound work has included A1/A2 Engineer for Entertainment Exchange, UU Congregation of Fairfax, The Kennedy Center, and sound for President Joe Biden.

Bielmeier lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts, where he is a Teaching Professor of Music Production in the Music department at Northeastern University[2]. His research explores skills and competencies aspiring engineers need to develop to be successful in the audio industry including the relationship between audio education and industry, DIY circuit building for self-directed instructional methods, and high resolution/multichannel recording via the internet. His writings are published by the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), The Journal on the Art of Record Production (JARP), Journal of the Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association (MEIEA) and Taylor & Francis/Routledge.

Bielmeier is also the creator, producer, engineer, and host of "The Process: a podcast about creativity and experimental music." (2016-present). The podcast focuses on the creative process for experimental music by listening to new works and discussing them with their creators. Each episode focuses on one creator and their music and includes an opening monologue by Bielmeier, excerpts of recordings, Q&A about the creative process, and in depth discussions of the creative cogitations. Episodes are released every other week, with seasons running from September thru May. Notable guests include Marti Epstien, Erin Rogers, Steven Kemper, Violet Nox, James Ilgenfritz, Jacob Cooper, Robbie Lee, and Brian Chase of the indie rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
